Trader killed in Pabna

A sand trader was hacked to death by his neighbours at village Ramchandrapur in Pabna on Saturday.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam said that Sumon Pramanik, 38, of Dakkhin Ramchandrapur was hacked to death in front of his house under Dogachhi union of Pabna sadar upazila at about 2:00pm.
He was returning home from Ananta Bazar in Pabna town, said the officer.
After the incident, agitated locals set fire to houses of murder suspects.
Three houses were burnt down before firefighters reached the spot and brought the fire under control, said Fire Service and Civil Defence officers.
Rima Khatun, wife of Sumon Pramanik, said that someone went to their house and said that a group of people was beating Sumon.
As she ran out of the house, she saw that there neighbours Titu, Mithu, Sanju and Manna beating and hacking Sumon with knives.
As she tried to stop them, the attackers also assaulted her.
Later, local people rushed in and took Sumon to Pabna General Hospital where he died, said Rima Khatun.
Sumon’s family members said that he worked abroad for about seven years.
After his return, he used to drive the car of Dogachhi union parishad chairman Ali Hasan.
He has recently left the job and started sand business.
They said that Bakul Sheikh, a councillor and sand trader of the area, was killed past year over the business rivalry.
