Trader killed for refusing to pay extortion money

A furniture trader was killed by some miscreants as he refused to pay extortion money in Nolanda village of Patiya upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Jamal, 48, of Narsingdi district.
Locals said, Jamal and his business partner Sujon installed a furniture shop at a traditional religious function (Urs Sharif) at the Shrine of Hazrat Gharib Ullah Shah ® Mazar.
Some local miscreants beat up the duo severely when they refused to pay them extortion money on Sunday night.
Later, Jamal succumbed to his injures after being taken to the hospital. Officer-in-charge of Potia Police Station Borhan Uddin said they were trying to spot the miscreants. Victim’s family is yet to file a case over the murder, he added.
