Trader dies while loading trees on a lorry at Gafargaon

A pesticide trader named Shahidul Haque Nabi (52) died while trying to load trees on lorry in Gafargaon of Mymensingh. The driver managed to escape even though the local mob managed to seize the lorry. Gafargaon police recovered the body and brought it to the police station. The incident took place at Haturia by-pass of Gafargaon-Bhaluka Road on Monday morning. Sohag, who was critically injured, was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
According to police and local sources, Shahidul Haque Nabi, son of late Mohammad Ali of Bir Kharua (Chhayani) village in Mashakhali union of the upazila, along with some others brought pesticides from different companies and supplied them to small traders. On Monday, Shahidul went to Tangail with his business partner Sohag by a motorcycle to collect money for selling pesticides.
At night, on their way home on the Gafargaon-Bhaluka road, they were crushed by a tree-laden tree at the Haturia by pass. Shahidul Haque Nabi, who was sitting on the back of the motorcycle, died on the spot and his companion Sohag was injured.
Later, the locals seized the truck but the driver escaped. Upon receiving the news, Gafargaon police brought the body and the truck to thepolicestation.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gafargaon Police Station Anukul Sarkar said legal action would be taken on the basis of the complaint.
