The new trade license( TL) registration has decreased by about 40 percent and the renewal decreased by 8% in following the abnormal increase of trade license fees from March last. The small and medium scale traders observe following the increases of new TL and renewal fees, the traders lost their interest in trading business.
The traders sources said this increase of TL fees is abnormal and unjustified. CityCorporation sources said a total of 1008 TL issued to new comers in July and August last whereas it was 1678 in corresponding months of 2014 . On the other hand 25,646 TL renewed in the same period this year which was 27,691 in corresponding months of 2014 . While contacted the Revenue officer of CCC Shamsul Alam told that due to increase of TL fees and renewal fees , new TL registration and renewals decreases to some extents and the traders are disheartened over the increase of TL fees.
While contacted President of Chittagong chamber of commerce told this correspondent that TL and renewal fees increased abnormally ranging from 50% to 590% which is not acceptable. He said, a letter was also sent to LGRD minister to consider the decrease of TL fees . He also said small traders are losing their interest to have TL license with high rates.
Chief Revenue officer of CCC Ahmedul Hoque told that as per govt circular , we just realizing the TL fees with increased rates.
President of Bangladesh Jewellery Association, Ctg chapter Mrinal Kanti Dhar told the New Nation that as per City corporation Tax Schedule-2004, TL fees for jewellery shop with showroom was Tk.1000.00 and without show room was Tk.750.00 which increased to Tk.l0,000.00 and Tk.4000.00 respectively .
Association sources said the gold trade for the last two years going in declined trend and at the same time govt imposed extra burden over jewellery business which is not justified and acceptable . An association leader on condition of anonymity told that some dishonest CCC officials demands Tk.15000 instead of Tk.10000.
Meanwhile General Secretary of Chaktai Industry and Traders Association Md. Jamal Hossain told that small traders are losing interest to run the business procuring TL . He also demanded to fix the TL fees in a affordable rates to help facilitate the small and medium groups of traders. He also mentioned that under CC Tax Schedule-2004, tax were realized in 130 heads but now it expanded to 219 heads .
