Cox’s Bazar Correspondent :
After a five-month closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, the sea beaches, tourist spots, hotels-motels, cottages, and restaurants in Cox’s Bazar reopened on a limited scale for tourists on Monday morning.
The Cox’s Bazar district administration took this step to reopen the tourism industry at the Cox’s Bazar District Corona Infection Prevention Committee’s Zoom Conference meeting on August 5.
Despite the hostile weather, many hotels and motels have already started booking rooms for tourists.
Meanwhile, locals, as well as tourists, have seen enjoying themselves at the beach and bathing in the sea, ignoring the inclement weather.
Mukim Khan, General Secretary of the Marine Drive Hotel Resort Owners Association in Kalatali, Cox’s Bazar, said the extent of the loss to traders due to COVID-19 could not be ascertained. This loss cannot be remedied in the next few years. However, it is a great relief for us as all the institutions in the tourist area, including hotels, motels, resorts, and cottages, have been opened in compliance with the health rules after a long time.
Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police Additional SP Md Mohiuddin Ahmed said some tourists have started coming to Cox’s Bazar. They are also going to the beach. However, the tourist police are repeatedly warning the tourists to follow the hygiene rules. Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar Md Kamal Hossain said that about two lakh people are involved in the tourism industry of Cox’s Bazar district. Considering their livelihood, it was decided to officially reopen the tourism industry on a limited scale from Monday.
