Due to deplorable condition of the Buddhist Temple road at Ramu Upazila of the district, local people and tourists coming from far and near to visit the temple are suffering much.
The last year’s devastating flood severely damaged and turned the road deplorable.
Local people said that if the road is not repaired before the next rainy season, the situation will worsen.
While visiting it was found that the road is only one kilometre from Chowmuhany till Cheranghata. Numerous potholes have been created on about half kilometre of the road from Telipara Bridge till Cheranghata.
Local people said Ramu Upazila is one of the important places in the country for Buddhist traditional heritage and architecture. Of the heritage and architecture, five main Buddhist viharas are located on this road. So, huge rush of tourists is found here round the year. But, due to deplorable condition of the road, the tourists are suffering much.
The potholes on the road remain filled with water after any scanty rainfall, which cause accidents very often. Though the road has been in such a sorry state for the last one year, there is no step to repair it.
Some tourists said they were contended after visiting the local Rakhine temple, but at the same time they suffered for the deplorable condition of the road. If this situation continues, the tourists will be disinterested to come here.
Former General Secretary of Ramu Press Club Sunil Barua said the road is not only archaeologically important, but it is also the main road connecting several areas of Cox’s Bazar District and Bandarban Hill District. Considering its significance, the road must be repaired soon.
Ramu Upazila Parishad Chairman Riaz Ul Alam said it is the most important road in the upazila which was much damaged by the last year’s flood. Some carpeting and RCC have been done on the road, and the rest will be repaired soon.
