Police recovered body of a tourist from a room of a hotel at Saint Martin’s island under Teknaf upazila in the district on Thursday noon.
The deceased was identified as Arefin Akter Asif, 26, son of a former Bangladesh Bank officer Mujibur Rahman of Kalyanpur area in the capital.
Police and Sea Gold Guest House sources said on Wednesday noon a tourist named Saiful Islam, 26, rented 111 number room of the guest house and registered as son of Oli Mia of Dhaka. On Thursday at 12pm, during a routine check out, guest house employees called him, but getting no response from the room, they informed the matter to police.
Being informed, a police team led by local police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Selim went to the spot, broke open the room’s door, and recovered the body of the tourist.
Saint Martin Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Amin said Sub-Inspector (SI) of Teknaf police station Shahjahan, on information, went to the spot, found the mobile phone of the deceased without SIM card. Later, contacting in the numbers found on the phonebook of the mobile phone, his identity was confirmed.
