The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the greatest religious festival of Muslim community was observed in the port city of Chittagong amidst much enthusiasm.
During the Eid day and the following days, the city-streets looked vacant with a few numbers of people visiting their relatives’ house in the city. But the tourist spots of the city including Foy’s Lake, Chittagong Zoo, Children Park and the Patenga sea beach were full of visitors who were enjoying their holidays with their family members.
A huge numbers of city dwellers spent their holidays in some of the tourist spots of the city.
The main Eid congregation was held at Jamiatul Falah Mosque maidan at 8:30am on Monday last. Besides, Eid congregations at all wards of the Chittagong City Corporation numbering about 254 were held.
Meanwhile, the port city has been rejuvenated after a long three-day Eid holiday, that has ended on Wednesday. The city-dwellers who went to their village home to observe Eid with their near and dear ones have started to return to their place of works on Thursday after observing Eid holiday. But the turnout is very negligible.
Almost all the shopping establishments and shops still remained closed as the employees and the shop-owners are enjoying weeklong holiday since the morning of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
It may be mentioned that about 60 to 70 per cent city-dwellers are outsiders from the village. So, almost all of them go to their village home particularly during the Eid-ul-Fitr. Only the permanent residents of the city remained to observe the festival.
