The district administration has ordered closure of all tourists in Cox’s Bazar amid a record surge in coronavirus cases in the country.
The announcement was made effective from Thursday onwards, and will be in place until April 14.
Syed Murad Islam, executive magistrate and assistant commissioner (tourism cell) of Cox’s Bazar, confirmed the matter to media.
He said all tourist and entertainment centers in the district have been declared closed until April 14, as per instructions from the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
The decision was made to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 amid a new wave of the virus.
Meanwhile, The forest department has banned
tourists from entering the Sundarbans till 15 April to tackle the second wave of Covid-19. However, beekeepers and fishermen will be exempt from the ban, reports UNB.
Forest conservator of Khulna Zone Moinuddin Khan told this to the media.
He said that there are seven tourist spots in eastern and western zones of the Sundarbans. All of these will be closed immediately to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Forest department says around 200,000 domestic and foreign tourists visit the Sundarbans every year. Earlier on 19 March last year, the Sundarbans was declared closed for tourists.
Later, after almost seven months of closure, instructions were given to conduct tourism from October in compliance with the hygiene rules.
