The World Tourism Day was observed in this port city and its adjacent districts today through various programmes, aiming to raise awareness among the people about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values.
This year’s theme of the day is- “Sustainable Tourism – a tool for development”.
To mark the day, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and District Administration took up various programmes, including rally and discussion in city’s circuit house area in the morning.
The rally started from Chittagong circuit house area and concluded at the same venue after parading different important city street. Besides, separate rallies were brought out from city’s GEC crossing and Agrabad commercial areas at 9 am.
Hotel Well Park Residence, Hotel Peninsula and Hotel Agrabad also organized different functions including drawing competition for children at their auditoriums in the morning.
Hotel Agrabad and Radisson Blu Chittagong also arranged separate rallies on World Tourism Day. Officers and employees of all ranks of the hotels participated in the rally. United Nations World Trade Organization (UNWTO) organizes the ‘World Tourism Day’ on this day every year.
