Tortured Sumi Akter got permission to fly home without paying 22,000 Riyal as compensation demanded by her employer in Saudi Arabia.
Sumi Akter, wife of Nurul Islam of Ashulia went Saudi Arabia on May 30 this year.
After getting a job as a housemaid, she has been tortured seriously by the homeowner.
Sumi uploaded a video stating her being tortured and urged for help to return home.
The video becomes viral and the Saudi police recovered her from her homeowner’s house.
During the process to send back Bangladesh, her Kofil (employer) demanded 22,000 Riyal as compensation as he claimed he had to spent such amount to get Sumi as house maid.
This demand has blocked Sumi to get final exit permission from her employer’s house. However, Sumi has been sent to a safe home then.
On the other hand, officials from Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddha have appealed to Saudi labour court to give Sumi final exit permission without paying employer’s compensation.
The court accepted the petition after hearing on Sunday. It also cancelled house owner’s demand of repaying compensation.
As per the court order, the house owner gave Sumi the final permission to leave the country.
Zahid Anwar, Deputy Director of Wage Earners Welfare Board, said, they are trying to get back Sumi home soon.
Besides, Jeddha’s Bangladesh Consulate has urged the Expatriate Welfare Ministry to direct Ruposhi Bangla Overseas, Sumi’s recruiting agencies in Dhaka, to give Sumi Tk 5 lakh to meet her return costing on November 5.
Meanwhile, Sumi’s husband Nurul Islam also filed a general diary against Ruposhi Bangla Overseas with Paltan Police Station.
