Two police Sub-Inspectors were withdrawn on the charge of torturing UK-based Channel-S journalist Sirajul Islam Jibon at Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station on Thursday.
Bidhan Tripura, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Habigang district, regretted the incident at Habiganj Press Club auditorium on Thursday.
At the same time he also assured the journalists that

those who were involved in the torture incident will not be spared. SI Rakibul Islam and SI Abdul Mukid Chowdhury had already been withdrawn. The total police force cannot take responsibility of any individual policeman’s misdeed.
He urged journalists and policemen to work together and to cooperate with one another. Senior journalists and police officer of Habiganj were also present at the meeting.
Police arrested Sirajul Islam Jibon, district assistant correspondent of Channel S, on Friday from his residence at Gorurbazar in Habiganj town, said his fellow colleagues.
Later, they tortured him in custody, leaving him severely injured, it is alleged. Police took him to a hospital in the morning, saying he was injured in a mob beating.
Local journalists said that police implicated Jibon in a “false case to extort money from him.”
Following the incident, journalists blocked a road in front of Habiganj Sadar police station in the town, protesting the torture of Jibon. Later they also vowed to boycott police and all their news.
