A tornado that swept over some villages of Bagerhat Sadar and Fakirhat Upazilas in the district on Thursday evening and lasted for only 1.5 minutes disrupted six villages badly. They are Arpara. Sotal, Kodhla and Baraipara within Baraipara Union, Komorpur village within Jatrapur union and Paikpara under Fakirhat Upazila.
Though there was no causality of life but it caused huge damage to the thatched houses, poultry firms, cattle heads, cow sheds, betel leave gardens (Baraj), seasonal crops and fruit bearing trees. No survey was done to ascertain the damage of the properties, but it is opined by the some affected people that it (damage) will be around Taka one crore.
It is learnt from the locals that at least 10 houses were blown away. vegetables were damaged and big trees were uprooted or broken. Shaikh A. Zobbar and Khairun-Nesa, 2 expected people of Baraipara village disclosed to the newsmen, within moments big trees were uprooted, sheds of thatched houses were blown away and even the selling fans of some houses were also blown away. Khan Mujibor Rahman, Upazila Chairman of Bagerhat Sadar and A.F.M. Ehteshamul Howlader, Nirbahi Officer of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila visited the tornado stricken villages on Saturday in order to know the sufferings of the affected people. They disclosed that the survey is going on to ascertain the damage. They disclosed that the affected villagers would be given all kinds of helps.
A Youngman Killed By Lightning in Sharankhola
Another report states that Arif (18), son of one Mujibor Rahman of village Tafalbari under Sharankhola Upazila in the district met his tragic end when a lightning flashed on him on Saturday at noon.
Locals said, on the day the ill-fated young man was returning home from the local bazaar. But on his way all a thunder volt struck him all on a sudden.. As a result, he sustained severe burn injuries on his person and died on the spot.
