A huge amount of torn currency notes were recovered from Bagbari in Shahjahanpur upazila of Bogura on Tuesday.
Informed by locals, a team of police went to the spot around 11:00am and recovered 10 sacks of shredded notes in an abandoned condition from a marshland of the upazila, said Azimuddin, Officer-in-Charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station.
He said the shredded currency notes were also found in a truck near the marshland.
The truck belongs to the Shahjahanpur municipality.
When asked, Bangladesh Bank Bogura Zone Executive Director Jagannath Ghosh said that they have instructed the municipality to the dispose of the currencies, which were rejected earlier.
“We follow two ways-either dump the banknotes or burn them,” he said.
The municipality was asked to dump the currencies instead they put those notes in the marshland.
