Libya killings: Top suspect executed in drone strike

A main suspect in the killing of 26 Bangladeshis in Libya died in a drone strike in the North African country on Tuesday, according to a tweet by The Libya Observer.
“Warlord Haftar’s militiaman Khaled Al-Mishai was killed in a drone strike by Libyan air force south of Gharyan on Tuesday. Al-Mishai is allegedly responsible for the murder of 26 Bangladeshis and 4 African migrants in Mizda town,” said the tweet, posted on Tuesday.
The Libya Observer, an English and Arabic online daily newspaper based in Tripoli, however, did not run any news report in its English version on the incident.
Renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA) is fighting a civil war in the North African country against its UN-recognised and Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), said Al Jazeera report. According to an Al Jazeera report, on Sunday, Haftar’s LNA troops were chasing Tripoli-allied forces to their stronghold in Gharyan.
The family of a Libyan human trafficker killed 30 migrants, including 26 Bangladeshi nationals, in revenge for his death, GNA has said.
The GNA interior ministry said in a statement on Thursday that 26 Bangladeshi and four African migrants had been killed in the town of Mizda and that 11 injured survivors were taken to a hospital in Zintan, Reuters reported.
Libya has long been a destination for migrants because of its oil-funded economy, but is also an important way-station for people attempting to reach Europe across the Mediterranean, according to the Reuters report.
