City has over 4000 illegal buildings: Minister tells JS

Minister of Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain Sunday presented a list of 4097 building owners who did not follow the approved design of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) in the capital.
Even some government organisations like City Centre of Dhaka City Corporation, National Shooting Federation at Gulsan, Jamuna Oil, Janashanka Bhabon at Azimpur flouted building designs approved by the Rajuk.
The minister submitted the list to the parliament while answering a question of Awami League Lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah in the question-answer session presided over by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.
According to housing minister’s list a number of prominent people have built structures by changing the approved Rajuk design.
Among the unauthorised buildings, 1022 are dealt by authorised officer-1, 560 by authorised officer-2, 1070 under authorised officer-2, 1410 under authorised officer-3 and 595 under authorised officer-4.
According to Rajuk laws, all building owners must get the design of their structures approved from the Rajuk before buildings are constructed and if the owner wants to change the design they have to get it reapproved again. Otherwise it would fall into the category of unauthorised buildings.
In answer to the second part of the question about the action on the unauthorised structures the minister said it was a routine work of the government to remove unauthorised structures.
According to the list, Keari Limited owned by Mir Kasem Ali, Northern International Medical College, ENA Properties of Emamul Haque MP, Sheltech Development, Tropical Homes, East-West Properties, Navana Real Estate, Concord Consortium, Subastu Development Ltd, Nagor Homes, Rangs Properties, Amin Mohammad Foundation, Shahabuddin Medical College, Rupnogor Real Estate, Concord Engineer’s Ltd, IDDL, Hyperion Development Ltd, Rupayon Housing, SEL, Mission Developers, Majumder Developers, Dom Inno, ANZ Properties, Green
Delta Housing, Eastern Housing, Nitol Group, Ad-Din Hospital, Crescent Holdings Ltd and Star Kabab of Dhanmondi-2 are among the organizations which changed the original designs of their structures.
Former MP Moazzen Hossain Alal, Fazlul Haque Milon, Alamgir Kabir and HBM Iqbal are, among others, prominent persons who also changed designs of their structures violating Rajuk’s law.
