Santrash Nirmul Toki Mancha observed a token hunger strike at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city on
Friday demanding the capital punishment of the killers of the schoolboy.
The Toki Mancha arranged the three-hour hunger strike from 9am marking 11 months into the killing of Tanvir Ahmed Toki. The striking activists ended the strike at 12 noon by seeping drinks offered by Toki’s mother Rawnak Jahan.
Rafiur Rabbi, Santrash Nirmul Toki Mancha convener and also Toki’s father, Narayanganj Press Club president and Mancha member secretary Poet Halim Azad, former Press Club president Mahabubur Rahman Masum, district Nagorik Committee general secretary Abdur Rahman and district Sanskritik Jote president Pradip Ghosh Babu, among others, addressed the programme.
Meanwhile, a tense situation prevailed in the Shaheed Minar area as activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League took position in the area before the strike began.
