BSS, Dhaka :Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, now on a visit to Delhi, yesterday called on Indian President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rasthapati Bhaban and apprised him of various outstanding issues between the two countries.The issues included implementation of Bangladesh-India Land Boundary Agreement (LBA), signing of Teesta water sharing treaty, expansion of bilateral trade, resolving transit problem to enhance Bangladesh’s trade with Nepal and Bhutan and renewing Bangladesh-India trade agreement.The Indian President showed his positive attitude over the issues during the meeting that lasted for about 40 minutes, said an official release here.The commerce minister stressed the need for improving communication system for increasing trade and developing economy in South Asia.He said getting corridor facility from India is necessary for Bangladesh to increase trade with Bhutan and Nepal. But there are some barriers over the issue, which could be resolved through talks, he added.Tofail Ahmed informed the Indian president about economic and social developments in Bangladesh and said the country’s all economic indicators are showing the upward trend. He said the government is working to upgrade Bangladesh to a middle-income country by 2021.The commerce minister is expected to return home tonight after attending the Partnership Summit-2015 at Joypur in Rajasthan of India.
