Abdur Razzak Smriti Parishad
A memorial meeting on veteran Awami League leader Abdur Razzak organised by Abdur Razzak Smriti Parishad marking his 5th death anniversary was held at Dhaka University Teacher-Student Centre on Monday. Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed was present as the chief guest. While speaking Tofail said the next general election will be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “BNP has made a mistake as it did not take part in the general election on January 5 (in 2014). I hope BNP will take part in all election like Narayanganj City Corporation polls to avoid any more mistakes,” he told. Recalling the long political life of Abdur Razzak, the minister said though there were political differences, Abdur Razzak was popular among all political parties. “He never derailed from the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman until his death”, he added. The programme was addressed, among others, by Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, AL Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon. President of the parishad Prof Abdul Mannan Chowdhury presided over the event.
Muktijoddha Sanghati Parishad
A discussion on ‘Glorious Victory Day’ organised by Muktijoddha Sanghati Parishad was held at the Parliament Members Club in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on the 25th instant. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque was present as the chief guest. While speaking Mozammel said the trial of war criminals and confiscation of their property are not enough, they should also be treated as “class two” citizens. “The offspring of war criminals would not also be allowed to get government jobs,” he said. The minister said the relations of war criminals should be removed from this soil to pay respect to those who made supreme sacrifice during the country’s war of liberation. He urged the freedom fighters to make their family members aware about struggle, the country’s history and tradition to create patriotism among the new generation. The event was addressed, among others, by Dr Nujhat Chowdhury, Prof Nim Chandra Bhowmik and Secretary General of the parishad Abdus Samad Pintu. Chairman of the parishad Colonel (Retd) Shawkat Ali presided over the programme.
