To reduce corruption and abuse of power in police remand must be stopped

It should be a matter of grave concern that police are getting increasingly involved in crimes. This is worst for discipline in police. Since crime has become politics it is also true that it has become easier to do crimes. It is generally believed that no crime is committed without connivance with political criminals.
We know that for political connections police has been given extra power to feel above law. The higher authority must save the police as a law enforcing body. The crimes in police are harmful for people to have trust in police about preventing crimes and in reality also crimes are increasing dangerously.
We have been writing against the remand system. It will save crimes in judiciary and police. Easy remand has made easy hidden corruption possible in police investigation. We all know this but the victims cannot say.
The other day the High Court expressed disappointment with remand system while releasing film star Pori Moni. The guidelines of the Supreme Court on remand are violated by the lower courts under police pressure. Remand of an accused is not normal investigation.
The news of sexually abusing a woman police by a police is worrying for the people in the sense that discipline within police is crumbling.
The higher authorities must take police discipline seriously if police are to be maintained as a disciplined body for preventing crime.
We also expects that the Supreme Court will not take lightly the lower courts ignoring remand guidelines issued by it. We want to see some lower court judges punished.
In most cases remand is all round corruption. Easy remand must be stopped for ensuring honest investigation. It is for the police to investigate independently to prove guilt of the accused not by using torture and intimidation.
We must not make the country easy for all criminals. We urge the remand practice to be stopped except in serious cases like treason and organised terrorism. Every violent act is not terrorism.
