TMSS providing drinking water to flood victims in Phulchhari

A large number of flood affected people of Phulchhari upazila in the district have been getting drinking water supplied by the mobile water tanks of TMSS, an NGO, for a few days last.
According to sources the Brahmaputra, one of the mighty rivers of the country, continued to mark rise in few days of last month due to incessant rainfall and onrush of hilly waters from the upstream.
In course of time, the river crossed the danger level at Phulchharighat point of the district inundating vast areas particularly the chars and the river basin areas of Sundarganj, Sadar, Phulchhari and Shaghata upazilas.
At one stage, a portion of flood control embankment at Singria area under Udakhali union of Phulchhari upazila was washed away on July 29 night submerging fresh areas of four unions of the upazila.
At this, around 3 lakh people were marooned creating untold sufferings to them. Many of them took shelter on the nearby embankment with their belonging including domestic animals and poultry birds and were passing their days miserably for want of pure drinking water.
To solve their water crisis, TMSS stood beside the flood victims and was distributing pure drinking water to them at Singria and Katlamari areas and Udakhali Hospital through installing water tank since July 30.
Assistant director of TMSS M. Rezaul Karim said at least 5,000 litres of water were supplied to the flood affected people of Phulchhari upazila last few days till Thursday.
The programme would continue till normal situation returns in the flood hit areas of the upazila, he also said.
UNO Masudur Rahman Mollah said the drinking water supply by TMSS was helpful and
praiseworthy as hundreds of flood affected families are being benefited taking water from the organization during the critical period.
