Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized Tk 77 lakh worth of precious red sandalwood smuggled from India intercepting a bus at Amrakhali here on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB stopped a Barisal-bound ‘MM Paribahan’ bus and recovered 134 kgs of Indian red sandalwood worth Tk77 lakh from the vehicle in the afternoon, said Deputy Commander of BGB-26 Major Liakat Hossain.
However, no one was arrested in this connection.
The seized sandalwood was deposited to Benapole customs house.
Piar, owner of ‘MM Paribahan’, has long been involved in smuggling sandalwood and drugs using his vehicles, said BGB.
A case was filed in this connection.
