Tk one lakh ransom call for missing BCL leader

Mohibul Arefin, Rajshahi Correspondent :The family of missing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader of the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Saifuzzaman Sohag on Saturday claimed that they have received a ‘ransom demand’ by phone.”The family informed us of having received a ransom call on Saturday” said Rajpara police station OC Mahmudur Rahman.He said, Sohag’s father-in-law Sheikh Rezaur Rahman Dulal got the call from an unfamiliar number around 1pm. The callers demanded Tk 100,000 as ransom.”The callers had told him Sohag was all right,” the OC said.Sohag, a fourth-year mechanical engineering student at RUET, was allegedly picked up by members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from his home in the city’s Rajpara in the early hours of Thursday.But RAB has denied any move on its part to nab Sohag. For their part, police have said they have no knowledge of Sohag being detained.Sohag is the information and research secretary of the BCL’s RUET unit.
