Rangamati Correspondent :
The Education Engineering Department (EE) in the district has allocated Tk 70.50 lakh for constructing hostel for a non-existent Mahila Kamil Madrasa, it was alleged.
The location of the institution was shown at Rangamati Sadar upazila. But, questions have arisen through different media about the huge quantity of money allocated and embezzled in the name of different projects by the EED in Rangamati zone.
Following a memo signed by Executive Engineer (EE) of EED Md Abul Hashem Sarder and directed to the EE at Rangmati EED on July 28, 2016, tender was floated to perform different development works at three educational institutions in Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts with Tk 70.50 lakh for each institution. The institutions and the work orders are: hostel for Islamia Mahila Kamil Madrasa in Rangamati Sadar upazila, academic building for Baghaihat High School at Baghaichhari upazila in Rangamati district, and academic building for Matiranga Islamia Alim Madrasa in Khagrachhari district.
Of those, the inclusion of Islamia Mohila Kamil Madrasa is subject to question. In this connection, EE of EED, Rangamati zone was contacted, but a clerk there informed this correspondent that the post of EE at the EED here is going vacant at present. The EE of Cox’s Bazar EED sometimes performs additional duty here, the clerk further informed.
In this connection, no officials in engineering level at Rangamati EED were found for comment.
In another memo sent from the head office of EED to Rangamati EED, the assistant EE of the EED was ordered to file report after investigation within seven days. But, the assistant EE was not available for comment.
Meanwhile, the matter has sparked fresh talks among the people here who think that the money might have been embezzled. They also said that where there is no madrasa at Kamil level in the entire Rangamati district, then the allocation of a huge amount of money for a non-existent madrasa is subject to question.
Currently, there are three madrasas with Monthly Payment Order (MPO) status in Rangamati. These are: Rangamati Senior Madrasa, Rangamati Al Amin Islamia Madrasa, and Baitush Sharaf Jabbaria Madrasa.
