The government has taken massive post-flood agriculture rehabilitation programmes at Taka 7.45 crore in five flood-hit districts under Rangpur agriculture region.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has already begun distribution of late variety Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) seedling, seed and fertilisers among 69,096 flood-hit farmers in these districts.
After getting the post-flood government assistance and incentives in terms of seed and fertilisers, each of the beneficiary farmers will cultivate early varieties Rabi crops on one bigha of land each. The flood-hit farmers will get cost-free seed, Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP) for cultivating early Rabi crops like vegetables, wheat, maize, mustard, ‘Mashkalai, groundnut, mungbean and ‘Til’ under the programme.
The government has been distributing late variety T-Aman seedling worth Taka 1.40 lakh among 1,146 flood-hit farmers and 42,400 packets of various vegetable seed worth Taka 13.78 lakh among 5,300 farmers in these affected districts.
Under the programme, 380 tonnes wheat seed worth Taka 2.49 crore has been allocated for distribution among 19,000 flood-hit farmers with 20 kilogram (kg) each to assist them for cultivation of the crop. Besides, 44 tonnes maize seed worth about Taka 3.50 lakh has been allocated for distribution among 22,000 flood-affected farmers of these districts with 2-kg each for cultivation of crop. A total of 12,100 flood-hit farmers will get 12,100-kg mustard seed worth Taka 78.89 lakh with one-kg each for cultivation of the crop on their submerged land after recession of flood water.
The government has allocated 12.50 tonnes mungbean seed worth Taka 16.25 lakh for distribution among 2,500 farmers of Rangpur and Kurigram districts with 5-kg each for cultivation of the crop.
The flood-hit 6,400 farmers of Rangpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and
Gaibandha will get 32 tonnes of ‘Mashkalai’ seed worth Taka 44.48 lakh with 5-kg each for cultivation of the crop.
Besides, 150 flood-affected farmers will get 1.50 tonnes groundnut seed worth Taka 1.73 lakh with 10-kg each and 500-kg ‘Til’ seed worth Taka 32,000 with one-kg each for cultivation of these crops in Kurigram district alone.
Under the programme, each of the beneficiary farmers will get 20-kg DAP fertilisers worth Taka 460 and 10-kg MoP fertilisers worth Taka 130 for cultivation of wheat, maize, mustard and ‘Til’ on one bigha land each. Besides, each of them will get 10-kg DAP worth Taka 230 and 10-kg MoP for cultivation of mungbean and 10-kg DAP and 5-kg MoP worth Taka 65 for cultivation of groundnut and ‘Mashkalai’ on one bigha land.
With the assistance, 12,410 farmers of Rangpur, 15,580 farmers of Gaibandha, 19,968 farmers of Kurigram, 10,638 farmers of Lalmonirhat and 10,500 farmers of Nilphamari districts will be benefited as they losses crop during the recent floods.
Talking to BSS, Rangpur Regional Additional Director of the DAE Md Shah Alam said the distribution process will complete soon to assist the affected farmers.
