Aiming to offer better and quality services, the government is going to take a fresh project for the state-owned cellular phone operator Teletalk to expand and modernize its network.
“A good news is waiting for the Teletalk, as the government has adopted a new development project involving Taka 610 crore for the operator to strengthen its network,” State Minister for Posts and Telecommunication Tarana Halim told the media.
She said the implementation of the project would strengthen, expand and improve the service quality of the operator which would also pave the way for offering different government services through it.
Besides, posts and telecommunications division (PTD) secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury told the media that the PDT has already sent the Development Project Proforma (DPP) to the planning ministry for final nod of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
He said the project is expected to be placed at the next meeting of ECNEC.
Turning to the possible financing to the Teletalk, the state minister said they are exploring possible financiers for the operator to make it competent for competing with the existing private operators.
“I am due to join World Economic Forum meeting in India next month where I would talk with the donors for financing to the Teletalk,” said Tarana Halim.
On the other hand, discussion is going on with China Exim Bank, she said. “We are insisting the Chinese bank to provide us low-interest loan.”
“People would not be frustrated if it (Teletalk) switches to 4G/LTE after strengthening its network and developing other infrastructures,” said the state minister.
