The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has given a highly ambitious revenue target earning to Chattogram Customs House for the fiscal 2019-20 .
NBR sources said , Chattogram Customs House(CCH) has been given a target of revenue income to the tune of Tk 63,168 crore for the 2019-20 financial year. It is 46 per cent higher than the immediate past year’s earning .During the 2018-19 fiscal, Chattogram Customs House had earned a revenue income of Tk 43,577 crore against the revised target of Taka 54,332 crore. Earlier, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) had given the Chattogram Customs House a target of Taka 57,462 crore that was revised to Tk 54,332 crore. But the Chattogram Customs House failed to achieve the revised target in 2018-19 fiscal.
Despite the achievement of the target, the growth rate of revenue income was 2.91 per cent in 2018-19 fiscal in corresponding to 2017-18 fiscal.
The Chattogram Customs House had earned a revenue income of Taka 42,344 crore in 2017-18 fiscal against the target of Tk 44,677 crore.
According to statistics of the NBR, Chattogram Customs House earned a revenue income of Tk 36,657 crore in 2016-17 fiscal against the target of Taka 39,622 crore.
According to Chattogram Customs House sources, behind the failure of achievement of target in the previous year was the decline of import of high duty cargo. Besides, the import of car also declined in the past year. Furthermore, the Customs sources said that the import with false declaration had been increased. The importers have been misusing the Bond facilities.
