Staff Reporter :In a daring heist, robbers looted Tk 60 lakh from the Janata Bank’s Joydevpur Bazar Corporate Branch in Gazipur district early Sunday.Police arrested security guard of the bank Nurul Islam, 50, on suspicion of the incident.Quoting staff members and locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joydevpur thana Syed Abul Hashem said Zakir, a cloth trader of Tanvir Plaza at Joydevpur Bazar, entered the bank on the second floor of the same market, with some fruits around 10:00 pm on Saturday. They fled the scene breaking a window grill in the early hours of Sunday, said the police official.The bank robbers are using the methods which were mentioned in the western thrillers long ago. The most worrying aspect is that their success rate is almost hundred percent, the OC said.The bank’s Assistant General Manager (AGM) Mohammad Solaiman confirmed the incident. He also claimed that the guard might have link with the miscreants. Earlier on January 25, burglars had tunneled into the vault of Sonali Bank’s main branch in Kishoreganj district town and looted about Tk 16.40 crore.Barely in one and a half months of similar incident in Kishoreganj, burglars in a filmy style also looted Tk 32.51 lakh from another branch of Sonali Bank in Bogra after digging a tunnel into its vault on March 8.In another incident, Muggers snatched Tk 18 lakh from BEXIMCO employees when they were about to enter the Janata Bank branch in Dhaka’s Shyampur area on Sunday afternoon. Kadamtali Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdus Salam confirmed the incident.As soon as the employees numbering three to four reached the stairs muggers armed with sharp weapons beat them up and fled with the cash, the OC said.
