Tk 500-cr defamation case filed against Mahmudur

A defamation case was filed against acting editor of now out-of-print Daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman, for alleged derogatory remarks about independence, sovereignty of Bangladesh, and Bangabandhu and his family.
Mostafa Kamal Azad, former president of Habiganj district Chhatra League filed the
 Tk 500-crore defamation case with the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Sulaiman. The Chief Judicial Magistrate ordered the Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station to accept the allegation and file a case.
Speaking on December 1, Mahmudur Rahman at a programme in the Jatiya Press Club said that Bangladesh is not an independent country as “the state will not be independent and sovereign having one population and territory.”
Bangladesh is now “a colony of India”, and Sheikh Mujib killed country’s democracy and independence of mass media, he is alleged to have added. In the last several days, 13 more defamation cases were filed against Mahmudur Rahman in Comilla, Narail, Jessore, Chapainawabganj, Tangail, Sunamganj, Satkhira, Manikganj,Gaibandha, Khulna, Dinajpur, Natore and Sylhet districts.
