A gang of fraudsters have embezzled more than Tk five million in five months by targeting pedestrians cloth merchants, fruit sellers, hawkers, rickshaw-van drivers and beggars in the name of giving loans. Fayez Ullah is the gang leader of the gang.
RAB-4 Commander (CO) Additional DIG Mozammel Haque said it at a press conference held in the RAB Media Center at Kawran Bazar , Dhaka on Tuesday noon.RAB-4 Commander Mozammel Haque said that Fayez Ullah formed Shibpur Small Business Association Limited last year. After some days he changed the name of the association and named it ‘Shibpur Micro Lending Co-operative Society Limited’. Fayez Ullah himself became the president of this fake association with his wife Rokeya Begum as General Secretary. The vice president of the association was his friend Sirajul Islam, the joint secretary was his brother-in-law Alauddin and the treasurer was his son Arif Hossain.
This cycle targeted the low income and working people in the capital.
In the wake of allegations, a raid was carried out at Muktabangla Shopping Complex under Shah Ali Police Station in Mirpur from Monday night (February 21) till Tuesday morning and RAB-4 arrested Fayez Ullah, 50, his two associates Afrin Akter, 24, and Taslima Begum (33).
Mozammel Haque said, “Although it was supposed to have 20 members in the association, there are about 300 members. The gang target disable, beggars, saloon workers, beauticians and footpath shopkeepers, housemaids and the slum people asking them to invest in their companies in the name of lending and saving.
According to RAB, some members of this company used to collect savings / DPS money from the victims on daily basis. Victims were intimidated in various ways and if they did not pay their savings / DPS on time, they would not be given loans on time.
The RAB official said that the gang was also cheating, promising to give them flats and land.
Fayez Ullah passed SSC from a local school in Bhola. Later he came to Dhaka in 1992 to earn a living. He started construction work at Section No. 14 in Mirpur.
