A total of Tk 5 lakh has been donated to develop ‘Dr Kaniz-e-Batul Seminar Room’ at the Department of Urdu of Dhaka University (DU). Sayed Asad Abbas, younger brother of late Professor of Urdu Department Dr Kaniz-e-Batul handed over a Tk 5 lakh cheque to the Chairman of the Department Dr Md. Israfil on Thursday at the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Prof of Urdu Department Dr Zafor Ahmed Bhuiyan and Assistant Prof Md. Golam Mawla were present on the occasion.
DU VC Prof Arefin Siddique paid his glowing tribute to the memory of Dr Kaniz-e-Batul and said, she was an honest and ideal teacher. She had dedicated her entire life to develop education and research at DU. Particularly, her outstanding research on Nazrul will be remembered, the VC added.
It may be mentioned that Dr Kaniz-e-Batul was born on December 14, 1951 and died on July 7, 2015 in Dhaka. Her two famous books are “Nazrul in Urdu Literature” and “Atish-O-Gul”.
