A TK 40 crore project for supplying safe drinking water among the residents of Ishwargonj municipality began on Tuesday.
Mayor of the municipality Abdus Satter formally inaugurated the works with the installation of pipe line at a function held at upazila premises this noon.
The project, being implemented under the supervision of the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) is expected to be completed by the current fiscal year.
Executive Engineer (PHED) Samiul Haque, Secretary of the upazila Awami League Abdul Hakim, Jatiya Party leader Nurul Islam , Chairman of Shohagi Union Parisad Habibur Rah man Akhand, Councilors and employees, among others, were present in the inaugural function.
The Mayor in his inaugural speech said if the project is implemented the residents of the municipality will get facilities of safe drinking water.
“We have also planned to modernize the drainage system and sanitation for the town dwellers in order to ensure healthy environment” , the mayor said.
