The government is going to take a project for improving the living standard of the country’s marginal people-blacksmiths, potters, barbers and circumcisers.
According to the Social Welfare ministry, the Department of Social Services will implement the project titled ‘Development of the Living
Standard of the Marginal people of Bangladesh-blacksmiths, potters, barbers and circumcisers’ involving Tk 431.15 crore.
Talking to The New Nation, State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed said the ministry has been supporting the underprivileged and helpless people-physically handicapped, blind and beggars-in different ways and rehabilitated many of them but it did not provide any financial support to blacksmiths, potters, barbers and circumcisers.
“We’ll be able to support the communities financially after approval of the project,” he said adding that they will be divided into several groups and provided with cash money for setting up shops but the government will not take back the capital or any interest from them.
They will thus contribute to the national economy, he said.
The approval process of the project will be completed by this year, said Nuruzzaman Ahmed adding, “We hope that the project will start in 2017”.
