Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) has approved a Tk 321.43 crore proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-2022, with a total revenue budget of Tk 75.20 crore and a total development budget of Tk 246.23 crore. At the same time, a revised budget of Tk 184.52 crore was approved against the proposed budget of Tk 494.84 crore for the fiscal year 2020-2021. The approval was given at a budget meeting chaired by MCC Mayor Md Ekramul Haque Titu at the Shaheed Shahabuddin Auditorium at 1pm on Sunday.
In the budget of 2021-2022, 19 crore 54 lakh taka in general establishment sector, 3 crore 01 lakh taka in education, culture, sports and social welfare sector, 2 crore 25 lakh taka in health sector, 10 crore 95 lakh taka in waste management sector, 18 crore 50 in development sector have been allocated.
A budget of Tk 6 crore 48 lakh for transport sector, Tk 2 crore for urban planning sector and Tk 07 crore for miscellaneous sector was proposed. Mayor Md. Ekramul Haque Titu, who presided over the meeting, said, “We have tried to formulate an achievable budget.”
Although the elected council has spent almost two and a half years, many of our activities have been delayed due to Corona. However, we have already been able to determine a lot of tax structure, collection methods, etc.
We will be able to strengthen ourselves by achieving the budget targets. “We have waived 40 per cent holding tax for the benefit of the citizens of Corona,” he added.
Many are not in very good condition because of Corona. We have to be by their side at this time. Our primary responsibility is to keep the citizens well.
Regarding the development of civic services, the mayor said that offices in two regions have already been inaugurated to increase civic services. We need to ensure service to the people through action at the grassroots level. As a new city corporation we have many limitations.
We have to face all those challenges and move forward with maximum service. Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Anwar Hossain conducted the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance and Establishment and Panel Mayor 01 Md. Asif Hossain Don along with other panel mayors, other councilors and heads of various departments and branches.
It may be mentioned that before the budget meeting, the 14th corporation meeting was held at 11 am in the Shaheed Shahabuddin Auditorium under the chairmanship of Mayor Md. Ikramul Haque Titu in the presence of the panel mayor, councilors and department heads.
