Tk 30.21 cr for Aus cultivators

The government will provide Tk 30.21 crore to 2.10 lakh farmers in 2014-15 fiscal year as part of a stimulus
package to give a boost to Aus paddy production in the country’s 48 districts.
Of the amount, Tk 24.30 crore will be given for Ufsi Aus paddy cultivation while Tk 5.91 crore for Nerica varieties, said Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury at a press briefing at her ministry on Wednesday.
The government has undertaken the stimulus package for the farmers aiming to raise production of Aus paddy, reduce the production cost, natural risk, water saving and increase supply of fodder, she said.
The minister said this year a total of 2.10 lakh bighas of land have been brought under Aus paddy cultivation in 48 districts of the country.
About 2.10 lakh farmers will get one bigha land each for Aus cultivation. Among them, 1.80 lakh farmers will cultivate Ufsi Aus variety in 48 districts while 30,000 Nerica variety in 37 districts.
Each farmer will get Tk 1,350 as cost of fertilizer and seed for Ufsi Aus cultivation while Tk 1970 for Nerica variety, she added.
Besides, the government will provide Tk 400 to each farmer as irrigation cost
while Tk 400 for controlling weeds, she said.
Meanwhile, the government will give 5 kg seeds to each farmer for Ufsi Aus cultivation while 10 kg seeds for Nerica and 20 kg urea and 10 kg MOP and DAP fertilizer to each farmer.
Due to the stimulus package, the farmers will get additional 70,000 mts of rice worth Tk 224 crore.
