Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Saturday said the government is implementing Taka 227.97 cr project to provide houses to the landless and insolvent Freedom Fighters (FFs) across the country for rehabilitating the valiant sons of the soil.
Replying to a question from treasury bench member Advocate Navana Akter in the House, he said, “as per the commitment of the Prime Minister for welfare of the FFs, this important project is being implemented at 484 upazilas with a provision for constructing 2,971 houses.”
He said this important project for the FFs started in January 2012, and would be completed in June 2016. At least 548 houses were already constructed, while constriction of 973 houses is continuing, Mozammel informed the House.
He said that the government has undertaken a step for floating tender to construct 361 houses for the landless and insolvent Freedom Fighters. “The government is also considering construction of 10,000 more houses for the FFs,” the minister informed the Jatiya Sangsad.
Describing number of freedom fighters in Shariatpur district, Mozammel said that there are 2,087 freedom fighters in the ministry’s list.
