The Ministry of Finance has allocated a total of Tk 212.08 crore for the payment of arrears to the replacement workers of closed mills under Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC).
The Ministry of Textiles and Jute will pay the arrears due to the difference between the National Wage Scale 2015 and the National Wage Scale 2010 for the replacement workers of BJMC’s closed jute mills, said a press release issued here today.
Today, the Ministry of Finance allocated the money announcing that the allocated amount will be paid to the workers by cheques in their respective accounts.
The Ministry of Finance allocated this money as ‘Management Loan’ or ‘Operation Loan’.
However, the allocated amount cannot be spent in any other sector except payment of arrears of 21,555 workers of 18 mills under BJMC in FY 2021-22, said the release.
The release also said that in case of payment of arrears to the workers, each
worker should have the given token, unique ID number, NID and bank account.
The banks must verify the NID’s of the workers before paying their arrears through bank accounts.
The BJMC or mills authorities will take immediate action to rectify any discrepancies in the payment of arrears.
The arrears of 21,643 workers who have NIDs and bank accounts of closed mills under Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) amount to Tk 213.19 crore.
Among those workers, there are 91 people with faulty NIDs and financial constrains.
Apart from the defective NID registered workers, the remaining 21,552 workers were allocated in favor of BJMC under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute from the ‘Operating Loan’ sector in FY 2021-22, said the release.
