A sexagenarian woman was suffocated to death by some unidentified assailants in the city’s Mirpur on Monday night.
She has been identified as Hosne Ara, 69, wife of Fazlur Rahman, inhabitant of Mirpur Section-2, Dhaka.
The miscreants looted about Tk two lakh in cash and valuable goods from her room, police said. Quoting the victims relatives, Mirpur Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Imanul Hossain said that Hosne Ara’s elder son Delwar saw the body from outside the room at about 11:00pm. He broke down and cried out seeing the body. His neighbours informed the matter to the police. The body was tied with a ‘gamcha’ around her neck and an old ‘Lungi’ around her feet in her home at Mirpur-2.
The incident was completely a case of homicide according to the marks on the body, said the SI. We believe that she was choked to death, the police official said. The body had been sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy, he said.
