DNCC's anti-Aedes drive continues: Tk 2.70 lakh fined for finding mosquitoes’ larvae

Several teams of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) continuing the second round anti-Aedes massive drive for the second day on Monday and found Aedes larvae in 26 buildings and
establishments out of 10,713 inspected. The DNCC mobile courts have fined Tk 2.70 lakh to the owners of buildings, construction companies and shaping malls on charges of finding larvae, ASM Mamun, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the DNCC, told The New Nation yesterday.
A mobile court led by DNCC’s Executive Magistrate Julkarnyen launched a drive in two houses at Uttara Sector-3 and found Aedes mosquito larvae.
The magistrate fined a house owner Tk 30,000 for stagnant water that consider the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. He also fined Tk 10,000 to the owner of ‘Hungry Dak’ restaurant for finding larvae on the roof-top, the official said.
During the drive, another mobile court led by DNCC’s Executive Magistrate Mir Nahid Ahsan fined Tk 10,000 to the owner of Confidence Tower at Shajadpur in Gulshan-2 area after finding Aedes larvae in the establishment, he added.
Meanwhile, Executive Magistrate Sajid Anowar launched drives at several buildings and construction sites in Banani area and found Aedes mosquito larvae during the drive.
Sajid Anowar fined Tk 50,000 each to four house owners for finding larvae on State Developers, Amin Mohammad Foundation Ltd, Signature Developer Company, and another house owner.
Besides, the “Car Speed” showroom owner was fined Tk 20,000 for building a car servicing centre after occupation the footpath.
On August 20, the DNCC completed its 12-day combing operation against the mosquitoes and visited 1,21,560 houses and structures while the authorities concerned found mosquito larvae in 1,957 houses and establishments.
It also found stagnant water, the perfect breeding ground, in 67,306 houses and structures.
