Sonali Bank looting: Tk 2.5 lakh more recovered

Investigators on Saturday recovered Tk 2.5 lakh more from a house in the old part of the capital and picked up one of the wives of Yusuf Munshi, who is the key-accused of recent robbery at Sonali Bank’s Kishoreganj branch.
Abdul Malek, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Police Station and investigator of the case, said they picked up Mahila Akhter for interrogation. The official said Mahila, second wife of Yusuf, was staying with him during the Tk 16.40 crore heist.
He said, they recovered the money from a house on the fifth floor of a six-storey building in Kadamtoli at around 4:00pm. Yusuf, the 37-year-old man, digging a tunnel between his rented house and the main branch of Sonali Bank in the district, committed the robbery.
Earlier on January 28, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested Yusuf and his brother Idris Munshi with Tk 16.19 crore at a flat that Yusuf rented in the capital’s Shyampur two days after the robbery.
Yusuf who worked as a construction worker in Dubai for three years from 2008, spent a year and a half to dig the tunnel to the bank’s vault.
