Tk 1,480cr income tax collected in Khulna zone

The Income Tax zone of Khulna has collected Taka 1,480 crore in the 2016-17 fiscal year up by Taka 321.52 crore from the previous fiscal.
The zone had set a collection target of Taka 1,440 crore, but the collection was to tune till June 30, 2017, of Taka 1,480 crore from 3.40 lakh taxpayers. Of them one lakh submitted returns.
“The target surpassed due to continuous efforts to enhance the number of taxpayers,” Md Iqbal Hossain, commissioner of Income Tax of Khulna zone, told BSS.
“We have set a target to collect Taka 1,440 crore from 3.40 lakh tax payers in the 2016-17 fiscal, but we have collected Taka 1,480 crore till June 30 (Yesterday),” he said.
The Income Tax Commissioner said, “We will be given honour with crest to 55 highest and long term taxpayers under the Khulna Income Tax zone in the next Income Tax Day, scheduled to be held on September 15, 2017.
“We excide the target due to have taken some initiative by Khulna Income Tax Zone,” he said, adding that the initiative includes tax training for teachers (TTT), Mobile team for running TIN programme, Training related to pay tax and e-TIN registration, Tax Fair and view-exchange meeting between Income Tax officials and stakeholders.
Joint Commissioner of Tax of Khulna zone Manjurul Alam said, “We have set a target to collect Taka 1,182 crore from 2.20 lakh taxpayers in the 2015-16 fiscal, but we have collected Taka 1,158.48 crore.”
“At least two lakh taxpayers are expected to submit returns in forthcoming tax fair, scheduled to be held next September 16 to 22,” he said, adding the rate of income tax earning has been growing day by day in the wake of bringing simplicity in the tax realisation system including e-TIN registration together with developing cordial relation between tax officials and taxpayers.
Manjurul Alam said the growth rate is significant for the area comprises the districts of Jessore, Khulna, Magura, Satkhira, Bagerhat and Jhenidah where there are established big industries including Jute Mills, Shrimp Factories and Brick Kilns.
“We have set a target to realise Taka 1,600 crore from five lakh taxpayers under 22 tax circle of Khulna zone in the current fiscal 2017-18. We are hopeful of exceeding this target by end of the fiscal,” said the Joint Commissioner of Tax.
He, however, said, “For the sake of tax collection there is no hesitation for filling certificate case or fining, even confiscating bank accounts of those identified as defaulters.”
He further said the number of certificate cases, lodged so far, mounted to more than 300 in the zone.
