A total of Tk 13,372 crore of the undisclosed money was whitened since the country’s independence, Finance Minister AMA Muhith told the Parliament on Thursday.
“As the government gave scope for whitening undisclosed Tk 13,372 crore since independence, it got tax of Tk 1,454 crore during the same time,” the Finance Minister said while replying to a written question of Awami League lawmaker M Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
According to Muhith, Tk 2.25 crore undisclosed money was whitened and government got tax Tk 0.19 crore in between 1971 and 1975, while during 1976- 1980, Tk 50.76 crore untaxed money
was legalized and government earned a Tk 0.81 crore revenue.
He also said Tk 45.89 crore undisclosed money was whitened from 1981 to 1990 and the government got tax of Tk 4.5 crore and during 1991-1996 untaxed money of Tk 150.79 crore was legalized and the government earned Tk 15.08 crore.
“The government got tax of Tk 141.24 crore when undisclosed money of Tk 950.41 crore was whitened between 1997 and 2000 and Tk 827.74 crore untaxed money was whitened from 2001 to 2006 and the government got tax of Tk 102.77 crore,” Muhith said.
He said that the highest Tk 9682 crore undisclosed money was whitened during 2007-2009 and the government earned a Tk 911 crore revenue while a total of Tk 1805.01 crore untaxed money was whitened and the government got a Tk 230.41 crore revenue during 2009-2013.
“Since 2013 till Thursday, Tk 856.30 undisclosed money was whitened and the government earned Tk 48.40 crore revenue,” the Finance Minister informed the House.
