At long last the sufferings of four Upazilas- South Surma , Fenchugonj, Balagonj and Osmaninagor consisting of 15 lakh people will be over as the two regional highways Fechugonj – Maizgaon – Pualbari and Sylhet- Sultanpur- Balagonj will be renovated and reconstructed with the cost of Tk. 107.34 crore allotted by the Executive Council of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), said Sylhet- 3 Constituency Member of Parliament Mahmudus Samad Chowdhry Koyes of Ruling Party.
It can be mentioned here that a temporary renovation programme with the cost of Tk. 60 lakh has been in progress under the initiative of the aforesaid ruling party law-maker. Earlier, Mr. Chowdhry put up the files to the Roads, Highway and Bridges Ministry. Yesterday the Executive Council of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting presided over by ECNEC Chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allotted Tk. 66.21 crore for reconstruction , renovation and sideway expansion of Sylhet – Sultanpur-Balagonj Regional Highway and at the same time Tk. 41.13 lakh for Fenchugonj – Maizgaon – Pualbari Highway under Sylhet development project.
The populous four upazilas in Sylhet have been in dire troubles, as there has been no major development work on these two regional highways since long. Amongst those two upazilas – Osmaninagar, Balagonj and parts of Fenchugonj are expatriates -based upazilas in the district. While talking to Journalists including this correspondent, Industrialist and Parliamentarian Mahmusus Samad Chowdhry thanked ECNEC President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina , Roads Highway and Bridges Affairs Minister Obaidul Quader, Planning Minister A.N.H Mustafa Kamal for allotting Tk. 107.34 crore for reconstruction renovation and sideway expansion of those to regional highways.
Chawdhry added that tender process will be hurried for the beginning of the reconstruction and expansion work of those two regional highways which lead through haor- basin Boro- crop areas where fertilizer pruduced in Shahjalal Gas Fertilizer Factory at Fachugonj industrial town is to be transported to the remote area of the district. Under the supervision of Road and Highway Department, Sylhet – Sultanpur -Balagonj Regional Highway is being renovated with the rod, concrete, cement (RCC) work . After side way expansion of 3 feet on both sides, the width of the highway will be 18 feet.
