Local businesses are expecting Tk 1020 million spot orders in the upcoming 21st Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2016, the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) officials said.
The month-long DITF-2016 will begin from January 1, 2016 at Sher-e- Bangla Nagar in the city. EPB has completed its preparation the purpose.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the fair, officials of the EBP said.
“Preparation for Dhaka International Trade Fair to be held at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar has been going on in full-swing,” Vice-Chairman of EPB Shubhashish Bose told The New Nation on Saturday.
He said traders/ exporters are expecting Tk 1020 million spot orders from the global buyers in the DITF-2016.
He said, “We are prepared for the gala event and hopefully we would be able to start the fair as per schedule”.
He said, the DITF is jointly organised by the Ministry of Commerce and EPB and stalls and pavilions for the DITF-2016 have already been allocated.
He said, the event is expected to provide immense opportunities both for buyers and sellers to establish new business contacts.
A wide-range of products, including textile and garments, leather & leather goods footwear, machinery equipment, pharmaceuticals, carpets, chemical & allied products, cosmetics & beauty aids, dairy products, electrical and electronic items, food stuff, gift & novelty items, handicrafts, household appliances, furniture, building materials, sports goods, sanitary ware, toys and stationery, watches, and jewellery will be displayed at the fair.
The fair would help foreign investors and buyers create new business opportunities in Bangladesh and also establish direct and fruitful business contacts with their Bangladeshi counterparts, the EPB sources said.
A total of 12 foreign countries namly Pakistan, India, China, Iran, South Korea, Thailand, the USA, Turkey, Singapore, Japan, the KSA and Malaysia are expected to take part in the fair.
According to the organisers, nearly five Special Pavilions, five Premier Pavilions, four Premier Mini Pavilions, 35 Premier Stalls, 62 General Pavilions, 54 General Mini Pavilions, 317 Stalls and 12 Restaurants will be established in the fair this year.
A total of 531 national and international companies are taking part in the fair.
According to EPB data, last year DIFT fetched a spot-export order of Tk 950 million and pulled in 6.0 million visitors.
