Tk 10-cr gold seized at Ctg Airport

In another big haul of gold, customs officials seized 200 gold bars, weighing around 23.328 kg at Shah Amanat International Airport here on Tuesday.
At the same time, some 87 kg of lead were also seized at the airport. Tipped off that a large consignment of gold was entering the country from Dubai, the customs officials had been on high alert at the airport since Monday night, said Mohammad Selim Reza, assistant commissioner (Customs) at the airport.
They conducted a drive at the cargo of an ‘Air Arabia’ flight that landed at the airport from Sharjah around 1:30am from 9am yesterday.
During their six-hour drive that continued till 3pm, the customs officials recovered 200 gold bars from the battery chambers of several charger lights, Selim said.
Besides, they recovered 87 kg of lead kept in small packets from the cargo.
However, no one was arrested in this connection.
The price of the seized gold is Tk 10 crore while that of lead is Tk 1.56 crore, said the customs official.
