A bounty of taka one lakh has been declared for Md Jahangir, the main suspect in the arson attack that burnt alive four women of a family in Tangail four days ago.
Dhaka range Deputy Inspector General [DIG] of police SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman on Saturday announced it at Mirzapur Police Station.
The prime accused Jahangir is now on run. The DIG also visited the spot of arson attack.
The miscreants last Tuesday, set ablaze the house of one Malaysian expatriate Mojibar Rahman at Dakkhin Sohagpara village in Mirzapur upazila in Tangail district where his wife and three daughters were living.
Hasna Begum, 35, along with her three unmarried daughters Monira Akter, 14, Meem Akter, 10, and Molly Akter, 7, were asleep in their bedrooms when miscreants set fire to their house at dead of night.
The mother and three daughters–all of them– died in the blaze. Police recovered their roasted bodies from the spot following day.
A murder case was filed with Mirzapur police station accusing 10 people, including Jahangir, as the main accused.
Locals said that Jahangir a neighbour of Mojibar might have devised the arson attack after his marriage proposal to Mariam, one of Mojibor’s daughters, was rejected.
The police, so far, arrested eight people in this connection including one Badaruddin, uncle of Jahangir.
Badaruddin, uncle of Jahangir, was arrested from Kaliakoir of Gazipur on Friday night.
