Staff Reporter :Burglars looted Tk 1.95 crore from a BRAC Bank branch at Joypurhat town after breaking open its vault sometimes on Friday night.The burglars, after cutting the wall of the bank housed on the first floor of Shahjahan Plaza in the main town, broke open the vault, police said. Top officials of the local administration, including Joypurhat Additional Police Super Abdul Mannan, visited the spot around 10:00am on Saturday.Meanwhile, police arrested two guards of the bank in this connection. They have been identified as Farooq Hossain and Helal Uddin. Joypurhat Superintendent of Police (SP) Abu Kalam Siddique said that a group of professional dacoits had committed the crime. They entered the bank branch by cutting its east wall sometimes on Friday night. Then they broke open the vault and decamped with the booty safely.He said that about Tk 1.95 crore had been looted according to the statement of the bank officials.The SP said that one Abdur Rahman Mollah rented a house close to the bank building and looted the money. Some local people might have been involved with the crime, he added.Police and other law enforcers have already started the investigation into the incident.Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Abdur Rashid said, “Some employees of the bank found a part of the wall adjacent to SME unit room of the bank collapsed. They informed the police about the incident immediately.” “Being informed, the police rushed to the spot immediately and came to know that Tk 1.95 crore had been looted. The CCTV, which was installed inside the building, was founded in disorder condition,” the OC said.Major Abdur Rahim of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said that two night-guards of the bank Faruk Hossain and Helal Uddin have been taken into custody in this connection. Earlier, On March 7 this year, around Tk 30.8 lakh was looted from Sonali Bank’s Adamdighi branch in Bogra by digging a 30-feet tunnel from a nearby furniture shop into the vault.
