UNB, Rangpur :
A court here on Saturday granted fresh 4-day remand to Titu Chandra Roy, the alleged mastermind of Rangpur arson attack, whose Facebook post triggered agitation as it hurt the Muslims’ religious sentiment on November 10.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after the investigation officer of the case Babul Islam sought 10-day remand. Titu, on November 15, was placed for four-day remand for interrogation in the ICT case.
On November 10, over a reported Facebook post by Titu Chandra ‘demeaning’ Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PUBH), around 8,000 people from nearby villages marched towards Thakurbari village, a Hindu-dominated village, and vandalised and torched 8-10 houses of the Hindus.
On information, police rushed in, charged baton, fired rubber bullets and lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the agitating people, leaving six injured with bullets.
A man was killed and 20 others, including four policemen, were injured during the clash.
