A supply line of the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited developed a leak and caught fire after being damaged by an excavator machine deployed in the widening of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Sreepur Upazila in Gazipur on Thursday night. The fire leaped 20 to 30 feet.
Several roadside shops were gutted in the fire, but no casualties were reported.
The incident occurred at around 6:45pm in Gargaria Masterbari area, OC of the Sreepur’s Mawna Highway Police Outpost Sanwar Hossain told bdnews24.com.
The fire-fighters of the Gazipur and Sreepur fire stations were trying to contain the blaze.
Vehicular movement on the busy highway has come to a halt because of the fire.
To ease the pressure of vehicles on Dhaka-Mymen-singh highway, the construction work for improving the existing two lanes into four lanes is going on.
