Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Thursday urged the businessmen to produce spectacles locally to overcome the import dependency.
“Spectacle is a very important and necessary product in everyday life but we meet our necessity through import. So, we have to move on producing spectacles,” he added.
The minister was addressing the opening ceremony of the International Optical Fair-2019 in city’s Institute of Diploma Engineers’ Bangladesh organized by Bangladesh Optical Industries and Traders Association (BOITA).
Tipu assured the businessmen that the government would provide necessary cooperation if they move to produce spectacles.
Mentioning that the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is business friendly one, Tipu Munshi said spectacle businessmen could get advantage from the government.
FBCCI President M Shafiul Islam Mahiuddin, former BGMEA President Atiqul Islam, former BOITA President M Fazlul Haq Jewel and BOITA Senior Vice president Sheikh Nurul Islam also spoke on the occasion with BOITA President M Sanaullah Khan in the chair.
